Pre-Release Review : His Guarded Heart, by Lia Davis

 Blurb :

Senator Beau Beckett refuses to lay low because of a few death threats on postcards. His new bodyguard isn’t going to convince him otherwise. At least not until the threat becomes real and his four year old daughter’s safety is jeopardized. He has no choice but to work with his cocky and sexy Agent Wolfe to stay alive.

Federal Security Protection agent, Judd Wolfe doesn’t play by the rules. His out-of-the-box way of getting things done lands him a babysitting job. But being Senator Beckett’s bodyguard while staying out of his bed becomes his biggest challenge as passion ignites between the men.

Excerpt:

Dread smacked into Judd, weighing down his chest as he followed his boss into the office. They may have been friends for over fifteen years, but when they were at work Daryl didn’t hold back on the ass kicking. Standing with his feet apart, Judd waited.
“I’m this close.” Daryl held two fingers pressed together up before turning to the window. “I can’t cover for you anymore. In fact, I’m done. That whole idiotic fly-off bullshit this afternoon was my last straw.”
Judd stared out the window, passed Daryl’s head. He remained silent, not because he had nothing to say, but because his CO was right. There was no excuse for his impulse to run into the warehouse without further research. Like every other choice in his life, the act had been reckless.
He’d been forced into retiring from the Air Force on medical disability, but he knew the truth. His commanding officers finally had a worthy excuse to push him out. Then he’d been right to follow his gut. Just like he was now.
Walter Smith needed to be stopped.
Turning to face him, Daryl pinned his with a hard stare. “This case is your last chance. The only reason I’m not kicking you out on your ass is because I need to ensure the senator stays alive and I can’t afford to be shorthanded with Marshall on leave.” He pointed to the folder Judd clutched in his hand. “Study that file until you memorize it. I do mean every note before you go to the senator’s office in the morning.”
Judd glanced down, then back up. “Why me? These are Sims’ notes.”
“Because you’re Beckett’s new bodyguard.”

My Review :
Sooo, I think this book could be longer. It has all the elements to develope in a bigger and fuller story.
Hence, I give it four stars.
I would prefer to know the two characters better, plus it has left me with a couple of questions and that stopped me from enjoying it to the full.
Other than that, it is a very nicely written story, with its adventure streak and its romance and of nice ending.
I liked the playful additions in the story, 'cause they suited very well to the characters.
If you want a quick M/M story, this is the book for you.
